The Palio dei Terzieri in Trevi, which began in 1980, is one of the most popular medieval festivals in central Italy.
The race between the Terzieri of Castello, Matiggia, and Piano celebrates the city’s rebirth following its destruction in 1214, which was carried out by the people of Spoleto at the behest of Duke Theopoldo, as recorded in the *Annali Ecclesiastici*.
